Emergency Medical Associates Improves Emergency Department Care with BusinessObjects 6.5

SAN JOSE, Calif. - October 19, 2004 - Business Objects (Nasdaq: BOBJ), the world's leading provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that Emergency Medical Associates (EMA) has deployed BusinessObjectsTM 6.5 to manage emergency room operations and track disease outbreaks as part of a state-wide biosurveillance system. At the Business Objects 2004 International User Conference November 7-10, 2004, in Grapevine, Texas, Jonathan Rothman, EMA's director of data management, will share how EMA uses Business Objects solutions to implement customized dashboards to help improve emergency department care and improve patient satisfaction.

Four years ago, EMA started its Business Objects implementation with the goal of using customized dashboards to improve emergency department operations in its 16 hospitals throughout the New Jersey and New York metropolitan areas. Today, that vision has expanded and the company is now using BusinessObjects 6.5 to manage emergency room performance, as well as to promote early detection of disease outbreaks to prevent widespread epidemics. BusinessObjects Dashboard Manager provides a dashboard framework and analytical capabilities that enable EMA to combine and report against huge volumes of data in a timely manner, ultimately helping the company to provide better patient care.

Jonathan Rothman, director of data management for Emergency Medical Associates since 1998, has been the primary architect, developer and manager of the company's Emergency Medicine Analysis and Reporting System (eMARS) data warehouse project, which houses over five million emergency department patient encounters. Rothman will share with user conference attendees how EMA built a comprehensive business intelligence infrastructure to help achieve its goals for improving emergency operations.

"Early detection is obviously a key to our success. BusinessObjects 6.5 helps us accomplish this by providing the tools for combining and reporting against huge volumes of data in a timely manner" said Jonathan Rothman, director of data management at Emergency Medical Associates. "I am looking forward to presenting EMA's success at the Business Objects 2004 International User Conference and sharing how the power of dashboards has transformed our business and made us more efficient."

"EMA represents the perfect example of a company who understands the vital importance of maintaining visibility across its emergency room network with dashboards from Business Objects," said Patrick Morrissey, director of enterprise performance management marketing for Business Objects. "Dashboards containing alerts, scorecards, analytics, and reports are key to improved enterprise performance management. With dashboards from Business Objects, users can monitor key business metrics, analyze performance issues, and set goals for the future. We are pleased that Jonathan Rothman will share EMA's success with Business Objects at our International User Conference. "
