San Jose, Calif. – April 14, 2004 -- Business Objects, (Nasdaq: BOBJ Euronext Paris ISIN code FR0004026250-BOB), the world’s leading provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that Marine Terminals Corporation (MTC) will deploy BusinessObjects™ Enterprise 6 to help manage enterprise performance throughout the company. With Business Objects solutions, MTC executives will access a dashboard to track key performance indicators within the operations, finance, and accounting divisions. MTC also plans to ultimately extend the deployment to its human resources, safety, sales and marketing, and maintenance and repair divisions.
MTC will utilize BusinessObjects Dashboard Manager, BusinessObjects Performance Manager, and BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis to develop a powerful BI dashboard to give executives access to operational metrics that impact the company’s bottom line. By proactively monitoring metrics daily, MTC expects to run the business more efficiently by increasing productivity on the terminals and improving costs per unit handled.
MTC was founded in 1931 and is headquartered in Oakland, CA. It is one of the West Coast’s oldest family-owned contract stevedore and terminal operating companies and provides the shipping community with a complete range of cargo handling services. MTC operates in 34 West Coast locations, from San Diego to Seattle, and 7 locations in the South Atlantic.
In order to improve communication and service to customers relying on those ports, MTC selected WebIntelligence® to power an extranet containing the latest information on terminal efficiencies. The extranet allows MTC customers to log-on and access quick, self-service information regarding the status of their cargo on the terminals.
In addition, MTC purchased BusinessObjects Data Integrator, a batch and real-time data integration platform, to ensure that reporting from disparate ERP systems yields results that are uniform and correct across the enterprise.
“We selected BusinessObjects Enterprise 6 so we would have a one stop shop for all our information needs,” said Jay Bowden, vice president of financial planning at Marine Terminals Corporation. “Our mission at MTC is to develop excellence in our employees and utilize innovative technologies to exceed the needs and expectations of our customers. Business Objects helps us reach this goal by enabling us to reach out to our customers via an extranet, and give our executives the tools to manage the business wisely.”
“MTC understands the importance and value of standardizing across the enterprise with one business intelligence vendor,” said Dave Kellogg, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Business Objects. “By unlocking the power of information across the company, MTC can improve revenue and profits while at the same time increasing customer loyalty. This is a winning combination.”
