San Jose, Calif. – October 18, 2001 -- Business Objects (NASDAQ: BOBJ), the world’s leading provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that Lands’ End, a direct merchant of traditionally styled casual clothing, accessories, shoes, soft luggage, and home products, has selected BusinessObjects™ Analytics, the suite of integrated enterprise analytic applications from Business Objects to help monitor information related to its customers’ catalog purchases, track inventory levels, and assist in analyzing large volumes of customer and purchase data.
Lands’ End has purchased BusinessObjects Customer Intelligence and BusinessObjects Application Foundation. Customer Intelligence is an application that enables sales and marketing managers to improve the performance of their business by providing analytics that help optimize sales productivity, customer profitability, and marketing efficiency.
Using BusinessObjects Customer Intelligence, Lands’ End will look at which marketing campaigns are most successful, which items customers are buying, and who is responding to particular mailings. With this information, Lands’ End can target future campaigns to a particular customer segment, based on what it has purchased in the past. This is designed to provide Lands’ End with better and more readily accessible information about performance.
Lands’ End also intends to build an application to monitor inventory levels using BusinessObjects Application Foundation. Last year, Lands’ End mailed 269 million full-priced catalogs to customers. As expected, the ability to continually maintain featured items in stock and ship them to customers promptly is critical to the success of its business. With Business Objects, Lands’ End can target items that are selling faster than expected and take action to prioritize and stock inventory if levels are running low. This early-warning system works to ensure that items are in stock, keeping customers happy and returning to Lands’ End with their business.
“In the past several years there has been a quantum leap in business intelligence, and after an extensive evaluation we feel that Business Objects can be the strategic technology company that can assist us in servicing our customers’ needs,” said Jeff Jones, chief operating officer of Lands’ End. “We selected their suite of analytic products for its functionality, flexibility, and scalability, and look forward to working with Business Objects as we apply their technology to better servicing 20 million annual customer transactions.”
“I am very impressed with Jeff and many others at Lands’ End, who show a clear and powerful vision for using analytic applications to build a world-class operation and inventory system, and to develop one-to-one relationships with its customers,” said Bernard Liautaud, chief executive officer of Business Objects. “Lands’ End represents the successful company of the future, leveraging analytic applications to drive operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. We look forward to partnering as they roll out this powerful technology.”
