Owens & Minor (O&M), multi-billion dollar medical supplies distributor, has pioneered a powerful supply-chain extranet application "WISDOM" that serves O&M's customers and trading partners. Thousands of O&M's customers and suppliers use WISDOM to access their own buying and selling data from O&M's web site.
WISDOM gives O&M's hospital customers a global view of their purchases. This helps hospitals standardize on fewer products and consolidate their suppliers, which in turn leads to larger discounts, directly improving their bottom line. In addition, WISDOM will alert buyers to whether or not they are buying under contract. Instead of hospital purchasing clerks operating in the dark when dealing with purchase request, they can simply click on the product standardization report before signing a purchase order.
"Customers and suppliers constantly ask us for information. We now have something that puts that information immediately at their fingertips."

Thousands of O&M's customers and suppliers use WISDOM to access their own buying and selling data from O&M's web site. The benefits are win-win all round. Users can track sales, manage inventory, and negotiate improved contracts through product consolidation. O&M has developed pricing strategies for both its customer and supplier versions of the web service -- WISDOM has led to over $60 million of new business in six months.
